Setting up or improving a site on an established platform when that is the most practical fit for your needs and budget.

  • Excel dashboards and automation

Turning spreadsheets you already use into tidy dashboards and automating repetitive steps.

  • Business software and database applications

Tools for tracking orders, inventory, customers or records, sized to the number of people who will use them.

Practical automation, including AI-assisted steps where they genuinely help, explained in plain language with their limits.

  • Hardware and software integration

Connecting devices, sensors or scanners to a program so the information goes where you need it.

Website builders, commerce platforms or custom development?

There is no single right answer. A hosted platform is often the most sensible choice, and the cheapest option to start is not always the cheapest over time. Here is a plain comparison to help you decide.

Wix

Hosted website builder

Often a good fit for
Getting a straightforward site online quickly with a visual editor.
Things to weigh
Ongoing platform subscription; design and features limited to what the platform and its apps offer; moving the site to another platform later usually means rebuilding it.
Who looks after it
The platform runs the hosting, security updates and infrastructure; you maintain your content.

Squarespace

Hosted website builder

Often a good fit for
Polished, design-led sites such as portfolios and small business pages.
Things to weigh
Ongoing subscription; deep customization is limited; content export is partial, so moving away usually means rebuilding.
Who looks after it
The platform runs hosting and updates; you maintain your content.

Shopify

Hosted commerce platform

Often a good fit for
Online stores that want built-in checkout, product management and order tools.
Things to weigh
Ongoing subscription plus possible app and theme costs and payment-processing or transaction fees; store data can be exported, but the store itself is tied to the platform.
Who looks after it
The platform runs hosting, security and checkout infrastructure; you manage products, orders and apps.

WordPress (self-hosted, including WooCommerce)

Open-source software you host

Often a good fit for
Content-rich sites and stores that want a large range of themes and plugins and the freedom to change hosts.
Things to weigh
You pay for hosting and any premium themes or plugins; flexibility is high, but so is the need to keep everything updated and compatible.
Who looks after it
You, or someone you hire, are responsible for updates, security, backups and hosting.

Custom development

Built specifically for you

Often a good fit for
Needs that platforms handle poorly, unusual workflows, or integration with other systems and data.
Things to weigh
Usually more effort up front; you own the code and can move it, but someone must maintain it over time. Not automatically better or cheaper over the long run.
Who looks after it
Agreed in writing: hosting, updates, security and backups are either your responsibility or covered by a separate arrangement.

Platform plans, features and terms change often. Check each provider's current details before deciding; we will help you compare them for your situation.

How costs and quotes work

  • Your first inquiry, the discussion and the quotation are free.
  • Every project gets an individualized quotation. We do not publish fixed prices.
  • Third-party costs are separate from EMAJ Tech's fees. Hosting, domains, platform subscriptions, paid themes and apps, payment-processing fees, storage and similar services are paid to those providers, unless your written quotation says otherwise.
  • Scope, deliverables, price and payment terms are agreed in writing before any paid work begins.
